Do not leave open invitations

Try not to leave presents displayed under the Christmas tree in front of a window. This gives a would-be thief a much greater invitation to burglarize your home and be successful at stealing your presents. Also, when disposing of boxes or packaging for expensive gifts, cut up the boxes for recycle and place the inside of the box outward so you don't advertise the great new item in the home.

Neigbourhood watch

Nothing is better than a good, watchful neighbor, so do ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your house.

All the above will help deter a break-in.

o Arrange for care of pets, lawn, house plants
o Arrange for home security if you are worried
o Empty refrigerator & garbage
o Pre-pay bills or get a trusted neighbour to help
o Close & lock all doors and windows
o Triple check that you have all your travel documents passport / tickets / money
