To pledge its support for the global Earth Hour campaign, we declared March the green month, having organised various programmes at Sunrise Fun Zone.
Some of the green activities that have took place included tree planting efforts, arts and craft work using recyclable material and making enzymes from food waste.
The month-long campaign culminated with an Eco-Celebration on March 26. Both the young and old were entertained with fun art sessions such as crafting eco-bugs out of egg cartons, making dollhouses and wall mount pockets from old cardboard boxes as well as decorating organic cupcakes while others participated in exciting family interactive games such as the newspaper mummy wrap and eco band performance.

The highlight of the day was the Green the Tree contest where children made useful items from reusable materials and subsequently wrote green messages that were placed on the ‘Green Tree’. The messages shared simple and everyday tips on how to incorporate the 3R’s – recycle, reduce and reuse, into one’s daily lives.

7-year-old Reika Kawasaki from Mont’Kiara Bayu, emerged as the winner of the contest with her handy bottle holder made from weaving together colourful fabric remnants.

Residents participating in the campaign expressed their joy for being able to work together to maintain a healthy environment. By adopting green habits such as separating recyclable items from waste, the simple act will contribute towards environmental conservation and a better future.
