Approximately 200 residents of Sunrise Mont’Kiara and members of the public attended mass Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training sessions organised by Sunrise Berhad at Plaza Mont’Kiara.
“Sunrise is pleased to be actively involved in co-organising this community event in collaboration with Global Doctors Specialist Centre which promotes public awareness on leading a healthy lifestyle,” said Anne Tong, Sunrise’s General Manager, Branding and Community Development.
The three mass CPR training sessions which were conducted by Dr Navindra from Global Doctors Specialist Centre, saw participants practise the new CPR technique with life-like mannequins. The new technique only involves delivering 100 compressions to the victim’s chest per minute until an ambulance arrives.
Indian expatriate, Abhijeet Beerala who took part in the CPR training also found that the new CPR technique is easy to administer and it is beneficial to know how to respond promptly to victims of cardiac arrest.
Besides the mass CPR sessions, visitors to the Heart Smart Week supported the event by donating blood at the National Blood Bank’s blood donation drive while the organ and cornea awareness booths drew a steady stream of people.
Free and open to all, the mass CPR training sessions were the highlight of Sunrise’s Heart Smart Week which began on 13 January 2011 with a series of health awareness talks. The talks focused on cardiac health, stress management and fitness.
This two-day Heart Smart Week health campaign held in conjunction with the 50th World CPR Anniversary, is part of Sunrise Berhad’s social responsibility activities to promote community emergency preparedness and healthy lifestyles amongst its residents and the public.
