Sony Ericsson WTA Malaysian Open 2010
22-28 February 2010

The Sony Ericsson WTA Malaysian Open was a not-to-be-missed opportunity to catch some hot tennis action close-up. Held at Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort, a mere 5 minutes from Mont'Kiara, getting there was a breeze.

As a newbie to a tournament tour, I found the experience highly satisfying. The atmosphere was informal, and I was literally 'bumping' into the players at the entrance, in the restaurants, sports centre and of course, courtside. On court, the quality and intensity were matched only by soaring temperatures. I thoroughly enjoyed the power play and can only aspire to emulating their skill and execution into my own game.

Day 7 : In the doubles final, first-time partners Chan Yung-Jan and Zheng defeated Rodionova sisters Anastasia and Arina in a match tie-break win.

In her acceptance speech, Zheng Zie thanked Malaysia for the strong support throughout the week.

Top seed Elena was the favourite, as was Li Na and Zheng Zie.  Elena obligingly posed for photographs and signed autographs, much to the delight of fans.

Day 3 : Despite her dimunitive size, Chang Kai-Chen packs a powerful punch, knocking out Zheng Zie in the second round.

Day 5 : A set down in the quarter-finals, Sybille Bammer persevered and overcame Chang Kai-Chen in 3 sets.

Signing off,
