The Sunrise Education Foundation (SEF) raised a total of RM486,529.88 from its inaugural SEF Fundraising Dinner held at Sime Darby Convention Centre recently. The event was organised to raise funds for the Foundation to provide financial assistance to deserving students from diverse backgrounds in primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions from across the country.
Special guests that graced the event included SEF Board of Trustees Chairman, Tan Sri Emeritus Prof. Datuk Dr. Augustine S. H. Ong as well as SEF Founder and Sunrise Berhad Chairman, Datuk Tong Kooi Ong. They were joined by more than 600 other attendees who gathered to show their support for the noble cause in an entertaining evening filled with good food, lively performances and business networking.
The highlight of the event was the cheque presentation that was presented by Datuk Tong to Tan Sri Augustine after attendees witnessed a touching video presentation of testimonials from SEF scholarship recipients.
Earlier, the crowd also took part in an art auction featuring contemporary artworks from talented local artists. Also part of the evening’s programme were fun performances from the Malaysian Prince of Beatbox, Shawn Lee, Helmi the Gimmick and Dato’ Leonard Tan.
The night was made more meaningful when members of the SEF Board of Trustees and Sunrise Berhad staff joined Orang Asli children on stage for a moving performance of Michael Jackson's "Heal the World".
